1: The line of scrimmage was first witnessed in a college football game in 1880. It was the brain child of Yale coach, Walter Camp, who introduced many innovations.


2: On this date in 1872, Rutgers 0 Columbia 0, marking the first scoreless tie in the history of college football. 


3: On this date in 2007, Navy 46 ND 44 (3 OT), ending the longest wins streak by 1 team over another at 43.


4: On this date in 1995, Nebraska 73 Iowa St 14. Scoring on their 1st 10 possessions, they amassed 624 yds rushing, the 2nd-most yds in school history. That season, they went on to win the National Championship & found themselves in the discussion of the greatest team ever.


4:  On this date in 2000, RB Emmett White, Utah State, set the NCAA record for single-game all purpose yards, 578, shattering the old mark of 435, in a 44-37 defeat of New Mexico State.


5: On this date in 1938, Tennessee 45 UT Chattanooga 0. This was the 1st shutout of a 17 consecutive shutout streak in the regular season for Coach Neyland’s team.


5: On this date in 1949, Wyoming 103 No. Colorado 0. The Cowboys scored 15 TDs. The two schools did not meet for the next 63 seasons. 


6: On this date 1869, Rutgers 6 Princeton 4, the 1st college football game ever played. Played with a soccer ball, players were not allowed to carry or throw the ball. 


8: On this date in 1980, Georgia 26 Florida 21. The Bulldogs were trailing 21-20, facing 3rd down on their own 7 yd line with 1 minute to play. Georgia QB Buck Belue threw a 93 yd TD pass to Lindsay Scott to keep its perfect season alive.


9: On this date in 1946, No. 1 Army 0, No. 2 ND 0. A colossal battle ended in a scoreless tie. Both teams finished undefeated with the 1 tie; the AP voted the Irish national champions.


9: On this date in 1996, Dante Brown from Div III Marietta rushed for 413 yds against Heidelberg, marking his 2nd highest rushing total of the year. Brown rushed for an NCAA record 441 yds against Baldwin Wallace on Oct 5.


10: On this date in 1918, GT 128 NC St 0, marking the 3rd time that season GT exceeded the century mark in scoring.


10: On this date in 1984, Maryland 42 Miami, Fla 40. Down 31-0, Terrapin QB Frank Reich entered the game in the 2nd half & led his team to the largest comeback in NCAA history. 


11: On this date in 1939, Texas Tech 0 Centenary 0. One of the bizarre games in college football history was played, due to a heavy downpour that absolutely flooded the field. The teams combined for an NCAA record 77 punts.


11: On this date in 1967, Toledo held Northern Ill. to minus 109 yds rushing to set a Division 1-A record.


12: On this date, in 1898, Princeton 6 Yale 0. The game's lone TD occurred when Edgar Allen Poe’s nephew, Arthur Poe, strips a ball from a Yale RB and run 95 yds for a TD. 


13: On this date in 1875, Harvard-Yale met for the first time. The score: Harvard 4 Yale 0.


14: In memorial. On this date on 1970, a charter plane crashed into a hillside. 75 people were killed, including 36 members of the Marshall Thundering Herd football team. 


16: On this date in 1940, Cornell 7 Dartmouth 3. Cornell entered the game 6-0, and not lost in 3 seasons, Dartmouth 3-4. With Dartmouth leading 3-0 late in the game, a linesman lost count and after an incomplete pass on 4th down, awarded Cornell one extra play.  


16: On this date in 1957, ND 7 Ok 0, ending the Sooners 47 game winning streak. 


16:  On this date in 1996, RB Corey Dillon, Washington Huskies, set the NCAA record for rushing yards in a quarter, 222 yards, on 16 rushes in the first quarter in a 53-10 defeat of San Jose St.


17: On this date in 1956, Jim Brown scores 6 TDs against Colgate. 


17: On this date in 1990, QB David Klingler, U of Houston, threw an NCAA record 11 TD passes against Eastern Washington in a 84-21 victory.


18: On this date in 2006, No. 1 Ohio State 42, No. 2 Michigan 39. This game matched the first time these bitter rivals entered the game ranked No. 1 & No. 2. The day before the game, iconic Michigan coach Bo Schembechler passed away.


19: On this date in 1960, Kansas 23 Missouri 7. Missouri entered the game 9-0, No. 1 for the 1st time in their history. Kansas was 6-2-1. The Jayhawks had to forfeit the win 2 weeks later due to use of an ineligible player.


20: On this date in 1982, Cal 25 Stanford 20. Kevin Meon took a kickoff at game's end, and after 5 laterals, ran in the end zone, and into Gary Tyrell's trombone. 


20: On this date in 1999, TCU RB LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 406 yds against UTEP.


23: On this date in 1968, Houston 100 Tulsa 6, the last time a Division 1 team topped the century mark.


23: On this date in 1968, Harvard 29, Yale 29. Both teams met undefeated, 1st time since 1912. In the final minute, Yale led, 29-13. Harvard scored a TD, 2-point conversion, recovered an onside kick & scored again.


23: On this date in 1984, Boston College 47 Miami, Fl 45. With 6 seconds left in the game, BC QB Doug Flutie let lose a prayer from midfield & his roommate Gerard Phelan caught it in the end zone for a game winning TD.


24: On this date in 2018, Texas A&M 74 LSU 72, marking the most combined points scored in a modern football game, 146.


25: On this date in 1905, a player from Yale, JJ Quill punched Harvard's Hooks Burr. As a result, President Theodore Roosevelt began a process which led to the formation of the NCAA. 


25: On this date in 1950, Michigan 9 Ohio State 3, the Snow Bowl. Snow fell 2 inches per hour blanketing the field, yard lines and goal posts on a day where the wind chill factor was -4 degrees. 


25: On this date in 1971, Nebraska 35 Oklahoma 31. Hailed as the Game of the Century, both teams were unbeaten, untied. OU was No.1 on offense, NU was No. 1 on defense. Johnny Rodgers 72 yd punt return led the Cornhuskers. 


26: On this date in 1927, ND 7, USC 6. A crowd of 117,000 at Soldier Field in Chicago witnessed the 2nd meeting between the schools and marked the furtherest east a USC team traveled to play.


27: On this date in 1913, ND 30 Texas 7. On the last day of the season, both teams entered the game with unblemished records, undefeated, un-tied. ND was 6-0, Texas 7-0. A true battle of the heavyweights.


27: On this date in 1926, Carnegie Tech 19 ND 0. ND entered the game 8-0, Carnegie 6-2. Carnegie’s upset over Knute Rockne’s Irish in the snow was one of the biggest upsets in the annals of college football. 


28: On this date in 1931, 80,000 in attendance in New York watch Army defeat defending National Champion, Notre Dame, 12-0 in season’s biggest upset!


28: On this date in 1942 Holy Cross 55 Boston College 12. BC entered the game 8-0, Holy Cross came in 4-4-1. The upset in a route makes this one of the greatest upsets in college football history. 


28: On this date in 1964, USC 20, ND 17. The No. 1 Irish were undefeated. ND jumped out to a 17-0 lead. USC stormed back bin the 2nd half. USC QB Craig Fertig threw the game winning 15-yd TD pass to Rod Sherman on 4th down with 1:35 left.


29: On this date in 1890, Navy 24 Army 0, marking the 1st Army-Navy game. Navy's program dated back to 1879, Army was new program.


30: On this date in 1905, Chicago 2, Michigan 0. Legendary coaches, Amos Alonzo Stagg vs Fielding Yost. The was the original Game of the Century. The Maroons scored a safety in the 4th quarter to abruptly end the Wolverine's 56-game unbeaten streak.


30: On this date in 2013, Auburn 34, Alabama 28. In the Iron Bowl, with 1 second left, Adam Griffith's 57-yd FG attempt was short. Auburn's Chris Davis caught it 9 yds deep in the end zone & returned it for a TD, forever known as the "Kick Six".
